Something happens every September. The summer slows down, the routine comes back, and that quiet voice says "okay, time to get serious again." It is time for your Fall reset. If that's you right now, I love it. But before you go fill an online cart with ten different powders promising the world, let me save you some money and a lot of confusion.
As a formulation scientist who has spent years looking at what actually goes into these products, the number one thing I see sabotage a fresh start is not lack of effort. It's overwhelm. People try to do everything at once, buy every trending supplement, and burn out in three weeks. So here is the honest, science-first version of how to reset well: nail the foundation, then add only what actually earns its place.
First, the part no supplement can replace
I have to say this before we talk about a single scoop of anything, because it is the truth that sells fewer products but gets real results: food comes first. No supplement fixes a diet that is not there yet.
If you want to build muscle, lose fat, or simply feel strong and energized, two things matter more than any supplement on earth:
Hit your protein target. Protein is the one macronutrient most people under-eat, and it is the one that protects your muscle, keeps you full, and drives recovery. A good daily target for most active people is roughly 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of goal body weight, which is about 1.6 to 2.2 grams per kilogram [1]. Spread it across your meals, and build each plate around a real protein source.
Eat a balanced diet you can actually sustain. Enough quality calories for your goal, plenty of vegetables and fiber, smart carbs to fuel your training, and healthy fats. Not a punishing crash diet... a way of eating you could still be doing next year.
Get those two things right and you are already ahead of 90 percent of people, before you have spent a dollar on supplements.
A quick, transparent note: a clean whey protein is one of the easiest ways to hit your protein target on busy days, and yes, it is on our roadmap at Proven Science Nutrition. We do not have it available just yet, but it is coming. Until then, food first, real chicken, fish, eggs, dairy, and legumes will always be the backbone.
Now the two supplements actually worth starting with
Once your food is dialed in, here is where supplements start to matter. And for almost everyone, from the first-week beginner to the seasoned competitor, the starting foundation is just two things.
The two supplements worth starting with are:
1. Creatine
If you take one supplement, make it creatine. It is the most researched sports supplement in the world, and it is not close [2]. It helps your muscles regenerate energy for hard efforts, which over time supports strength, lean muscle, and better training performance. The research has also grown well beyond muscle, with promising work on recovery, bone, and even brain and mood.
The protocol could not be simpler: 5 grams a day, every day, consistency beats timing. No loading required. Look for 100 percent creatine monohydrate at a clinically effective dose, which is exactly what our Proven Science Creatine is, micronized, ultra pure, and fully transparent.
2. Electrolytes
The second foundation piece is hydration, and water alone does not cut it. Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium) are what actually help your body absorb and hold the water you drink, support muscle and nerve function, and fend off the fatigue and cramps that quietly wreck a workout [3]. This matters whether you are lifting, running, chasing kids, or just living in a hot climate.
Our Proven Science Electrolytes are fully dosed with no proprietary blends, mixed the way your body actually uses them. One scoop in 12 to 16 ounces of water, before, during, or after training.
That is the whole foundation. Creatine and electrolytes, on top of good food. Simple on purpose.
What to skip (for now)
Here is the part the supplement industry does not want you to hear: most of what is marketed to beginners is noise. Skip the twenty-ingredient blends, the "proprietary formulas" that hide their doses, and the products promising to melt fat while you sleep. Until your diet, protein, sleep, and training are consistent, no fancy stack will save you. Master the basics, and the basics will pay you back for years.
Want it mapped to you?
Everything above is the general foundation. If you want it built around your body, your goals, and your schedule, that is exactly what my wife and co-founder Michelle does. You can work with her one-on-one for personalized nutrition and training coaching over at fitbymi.net. Sometimes the fastest reset is simply having someone map the path for you.
Coming this fall
One more thing worth putting on your radar: a science-first, fully transparent pre-workout is in production right now and landing this fall. Same standard as everything we make, real ingredients, real doses, no filler. If you want first access when it drops, keep an eye on psnutrition.net and our email list.
The bottom line
Your fall reset does not need to be complicated. Get your protein and your plate right, add creatine and electrolytes, skip the hype, and stay consistent. That is a foundation that actually works, and it is one you can build on for life.

Frequently asked questions
Do I really only need two supplements? To start, yes. Creatine and electrolytes give you the most proven benefit for the least money and complexity. Everything else is optional until your food, sleep, and training are consistent.
What if I can't hit my protein from food alone? Lean on convenient whole-food sources first (Greek yogurt, eggs, chicken, fish, legumes). A quality whey protein makes it easier, and it is on our roadmap, though not available just yet.
Can I take creatine and electrolytes together? Absolutely. They work on completely different systems, and many people take both daily.
When will the pre-workout be available? It is in production now and expected this fall. Watch psnutrition.net and our email list for first access.
